As the days begin to lengthen, spring arrives beautifully here at Goldstone Hall Hotel & Gardens, one of the most cherished hotels with gardens in Shropshire. The gardens are bursting into life, offering guests a truly special seasonal experience and making this one of the most rewarding times for spring stays in Shropshire.
At the front gate, our pink camellia is in full, breathtaking bloom throughout March, while cheerful daffodils and striking Crown Imperials bring colour and movement across the grounds. Primroses and cowslips are also beginning to flourish, thriving in the natural setting that makes Goldstone one of the best hotels with gardens in Shropshire.
In the walled garden, new growth is emerging rapidly. Our Head Gardener, Sarah, has begun carefully supporting the herbaceous plants using natural dogwood prunings – a sustainable and sympathetic approach that reflects our ethos. As a Shropshire country house hotel, we take pride in maintaining our gardens in a way that feels both authentic and environmentally considered.
The lawns are also coming back into shape after the winter months. This year, we are taking a slightly gentler approach, allowing the grass to strengthen naturally as we manage moss and prepare for the growing season ahead.
Inside the polytunnel, there is a real sense of anticipation. Early potatoes are already pushing through and will soon be ready to ridge, while dahlias are waking from dormancy ahead of planting in late April. The vines are also beginning to leaf – much earlier than those outdoors – thanks to the warmth of the spring sun.
Elsewhere in the garden, preparations continue for summer planting. While some areas may appear a little untamed for now, this is all part of the natural cycle. Self-seeded plants such as Red Orach, used by our chefs in the restaurant, are a wonderful example of how the garden supports our garden-to-table dining, reinforcing our reputation as one of the best restaurants in Shropshire.
Spring is a time of renewal, growth and quiet beauty at Goldstone. Whether you are visiting for a leisurely stroll, enjoying lunch in the restaurant, or planning a relaxing countryside break, there is something truly special to discover.
We warmly invite you to experience the season for yourself at one of the best hotels in Shropshire.
