Green Fingers
We are lucky to be close to many award winning gardens of merit such as Wollerton Old Hall, The Dorothy Clive Garden and Hodnet Hall Gardens. Plus there are two fabulous garden shows taking place nearby this summer: RHS Tatton 17-21 July 2019 and Shrewsbury Flower Show 9-10 August 2019. Both attract thousands and feature exquisite show gardens plus horticultural experts and are not to be missed!
The Midlands is also home to specialist plant fairs, based at beautiful locations and featuring award winning plant nurseries. This summer pick from a selection of events within 20 miles of Goldstone Hall Hotel.
We also recommend visiting nearby David Austin Roses. Admire their magnificent rose gardens, plant centre and tearoom. Also, just over the border in Staffordshire, there is Trentham Gardens with the mile long Capability Brown designed Trentham Lake; a true spectacle.
For the Lovies
The summer is ideal for picnicking outdoors whilst enjoying an open-air theatre production. Enjoy Emily Brontë’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ at nearby Hawkestone Park and Follies or ‘Whispering Woods’ a promenade theatre production including aerial performances high up in the tree tops of the Attingham Park Estate.
Also close by is the New Vic Theatre, one of the country’s most successful producing theatres featuring regular productions throughout the year.
Historic Grandeur
If stately houses inspire, head to National Trust owned Attingham Park near Shrewsbury. For those with a penchant for the medieval period there is Stokesay Castle, or across the Cheshire border the romantic and gothic, Cholmondeley Castle.
Sporting Fixtures
For those who enjoy equine sports, there is chance to watch polo tournaments at the nearby family run, Shropshire Polo Club. For the more adventurous, you can even take lessons at the polo school at very reasonable rates. The Gavin Memorial Cup takes place on 31st August 2019.
