Summer Fun – Ang and Brendan Coles
For their wedding Ang and Brendan wanted an intimate, outdoor, rural location where they could relax, laugh and celebrate with their friends. They got all they wished for when they chose Goldstone Hall Hotel for their summer marriage.
First Beginnings
Ang and Brendan had met as youngsters but only found out they knew each other when they went on their first date in Shrewsbury.
“When we first met, we were very young – we were in the same swimming club – and there is a photo of us aged approx 6 & 8, however we don’t remember each other from then! More recently we met via a dating app “Plenty of Fish” and we had our first date on a dark stormy night in a Shrewsbury pub.
For my 40th birthday Brendan took me to Barcelona and whilst there, he proposed at the top of the Passion Façade of Basilica Sagrada Família using a Haribo (sweet) ring.’’
Rural and Homely
Ang and Brendan wanted an intimate countryside wedding in which they could feel relaxed, have fun but remain relatively close to their home. They set out to find their dream location.
‘’We had a short list of three venues and Goldstone was the second one we viewed. We knew as soon as we pulled up into the car park that this was the perfect place for us and didn’t bother going to view the third option.”
The Wedding Day
It was important to Ang and Brendan that their wedding reflected their values rather than having a theme for the day. “The wedding was loosely based around things we like and think go together well; Fun, laughter and all things geeky.’’
Ang wore a beautiful tea length lace dress with multicolour petticoat to match the shoes and her bridesmaids wore shades of pink, lace, tea length.

Brendan wore a blue suit, white shirt, pale pink tie and pocket square.

Relaxed Wedding Ceremony
The couple were married in the outdoor Oak Pavilion nestled amidst the walled garden and rose borders. They particularly loved this space due to its flexibility and option of informality.
‘’The feeling of being outside combined with the intimacy of being surrounded by our friends, rather than the standard formal church style layout, was very appealing for us.’’

Afternoon Tea Wedding Reception
The couple chose to celebrate their marriage with a traditional afternoon tea for the wedding breakfast.

They particularly enjoyed the relaxed, less formal approach and the tone set was minimal with swathes of hessian bunting plus quirky hook a duck and lego place settings.
Their wedding cake was made by the bride herself and included 3 flavours of chocolate orange, lemon and a rich fruit cake, finished with a dalek bride/darth vader groom cake topper!
Garden Games and Fun
Afterwards the wedding party enjoyed playing garden games on the immaculate lawn with space hoppers and storm troopers.
‘’We loved the whole day and our overriding memory is of laughter. It was an absolutely amazing day and the majority of our friends still talk about it frequently saying that it was the best and most relaxed/fun wedding they’ve ever been to.’’
