Many like to stay indoors during the Winter, but if you are brave enough to step outside, there is an abundance of nature to see, not least the beautiful snowdrop. For galanthophiles all over the country, now is the time to grab the woolly hat, waterproof and head outdoors.

Our Goldstone snowdrops have been making a recent appearance – explore the path from the car park to the oak pavilion where you may discover a really rare example. But if you want to see one of the best displays in the area, head to nearby Attingham Park, or Dunham Massey just over the border in Cheshire, which has a seven-acre winter garden – one of the largest of its kind in England – including numerous snowdrops, over 700 different plant species, 1,600 shrubs, trees and evergreens. Set amidst a magnificent 300 acre deer park, it has colours and scents to delight the senses through the winter season!

It’s also the annual National Garden Scheme’s snow drop festival right now. If you are coming to stay at Goldstone, or in the area, you can enjoy the beautiful wintery spectacle at Millichope Park in Craven Arms or the Well House in Malpas.

Closer to home, is the award winning Dorothy Clive Garden – a charitable garden trust open to the public –  which also has a smaller winter garden including swathes of snowdrops, hellebores,  winter aconites and a stunning display of dogwoods.

Goldstone Hall Hotel is famous for its award winning three acre garden including one of the largest kitchen gardens in the UK, with raised beds, herbal walk way and fruit cages. Most importantly, our kitchen garden is a working, living space which not only supports the busy hotel and restaurant with an abundance of fruit and veg but the bar too! The gardens are open to guests whether staying overnight or simply dining in the restaurant for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea.
